CHALET SUZANNE AND BOK TOWER GARDENS

Forty minutes from Disney World, in the rural heart of Florida , there is another, smaller-scale kingdom of towers and turrets, spires and steeples, called Chalet Suzanne.  The experience begins as you wend your way along a country road and come upon this enchanting inn, nestled on a 70 acre estate.  You experience the Chalet’s charm first in the beauty of the setting … palm trees leaning with the breeze, Lake Suzanne glistening under the Florida sun, the low, rambling Chalet houses with their gay patios, towers and balconies.  But the essence of the Chalet’s reputation is its cuisine - food that Gourmet Magazine calls “glorious” - served in a unique setting of five quaint rooms on many levels overlooking the lake.  Every corner glows with antiques, stained glass and old lamps from far places.  Ancient Persia whispers from a fabulous collection of tiles, Spain in the ironwork, Egypt from copper pitchers and Switzerland in the costuming.  Just as no two rooms are alike in the inn, no two tables are alike in the dining rooms, nor are the chairs, silver or table settings.

Astronaut James Irwin, a regular at lunch at Chalet Suzanne, liked the soup so much he wanted to take it to the moon.  NASA found a way – freeze-dried in plastic packers - and to the moon it went.  Twice.

Guests will then depart for Bok Tower Gardens , one of Florida ’s most famous landmarks – located on the peninsula’s highest point, elevation 295 feet.  The historic bell tower, visual centerpiece of a magnificent garden, houses one of the world’s great carillons.  Recitals are heard daily at 3 p.m.   Clock music begins half-hourly at 10 a.m.   The surrounding 128-acre gardens are quietly beautiful and serene.  Thousands of azaleas, camellias, magnolias, and other flowering plants provide seasonal vistas of color against a lush green background of ferns, palms, oaks and pines.  Bok Tower Gardens is home to a colony of wood ducks and 126 other wild bird species.  Escape the hustle and bustle of a fast-paced world for a time of peace and relaxation.  A visit to Bok Tower Gardens is an experience to be cherished and long remembered.
